Long Hanborough is a village in Oxfordshire, about four miles northeast of Witney. The village is the major settlement in Hanborough parish.
History
An infants' school was built in 1879 and enlarged in 1893.[1] It closed in 1998 and was merged into Hanborough Manor School. The old school building has been converted to a private house.
The parish church, Christ Church, was built in 1893.[2]
The village has also a Methodist church.
The Oxford, Worcester and Wolverhampton Railway was built past Long Hanborough in 1852, with Hanborough station between Long Hanborough and Bladon being opened to serve the village. In 1935 the Great Western Railway added a smaller station at named 'Combe', between the villages of Combe and Long Hanborough.
On 30 January 1965 the body of Sir Winston Churchill arrived at Hanborough railway station on a train hauled by Battle of Britain Class locomotive Winston Churchill.[3] From Hanborough the funeral cortège proceeded by road to St Martin's Church, Bladon, where he was buried.
About the village
The Oxford Bus Museum and Morris Motors Museum are next to Hanborough railway station.
Hanborough has a Women's Institute.
