Loch Avon one of Scotland's remotest lochs, in the very tail-end of Banffshire within the Cairngorms.
The loch is at the head of Glen Avon, and around it it is ringed by the slopes of som of Britain's highest mountains: Cairn Gorm and the corrie that loops around toward Ben Macdhui. From this slope come the headwaters of the River Avon, which enter the loch at its head. The river is disgorged from its foot.
