Llyn Dinas
Llyn Dinas is a lake of 66 acres in Caernarfonshire. It lies beneath in the valley of the River Glaslyn, whose waters form the lake, all in the shadow of Snowdon
In the valley just a few miles north of the delightful small town of Beddgelert, Llyn Glaslyn lies at an altitude of about 180 feet above sea level. It is broad and fairly shallow, with the maximum depth only 33 feet. The lake offers good fishing for salmon and trout.
The nearby hill fort of Dinas Emrys gives a name to the lake. Dinas Emrys is a rocky, wooded hill standing on the skyline just downstream of the lake and there the remains of both mediæval and older fortifications have been found.
A rock near the lake named Carreg yr Eryr ("Stone of the eagle") was said in a charter of 1198 to mark the spot where the boundaries of the three cantrefs of Aberconwy, Ardudwy and Arfon met. According to Gerald of Wales, an eagle used to perch on the rock once a week, anticipating battle between the men of the three cantrefs.
