Linstock is a small village in northern Cumberland, a few miles east of the City of Carlisle, on the north bank of the River Eden, as it meanders across the plain towards the city.

The south of the village is wetted by the river, and at the north side is the course of Hadrian's Wall. The west of the village is curbed by the unforgiving course of the M6 motorway: the village's main road continues over a bridge over the motorway called Linstock Bridge, towards Rickerby.

The B6264 road and the A689 road are to the north.

Nearby settlements include the commuter village of Houghton and such hamlets as Brunstock, Walby, Park Broom and Whiteclosegate.

Sights of the village

Linstock Castle, now a farmhouse, was formerly a tower house built in the 12th or early 13th century as a palace for the Bishops of Carlisle, with 17th-20th century additions and alterations. [1]

Half a mile to the west, beside the M6, Drawdykes Castle is a former pele tower, converted to a house with a Classical Revival facade in 1676.[2]
