Killingbeck Island lies off Rothera Point, in the south-east of Adelaide Island

The island was surveyed by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey from Adelaide in 1961-62, and was named after John Basil Killingbeck (b. 1936), of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey, a glaciologist who was the Base Leader at Deception Island 1961-62, and the British Antarctic Survey general assistant at Adelaide 1962-63.

The island was further surveyed by a Royal Navy Hydrographic Survey Unit in 1976-77.
