Rothera

Rothera Point marks the east entrance point of Ryder Bay on the Wright Peninsula of south-eastern Adelaide Island in the British Antarctic Territory.

This headland is the site of the British Antarctic Survey station Rothera, which serves effectively as the capital of the whole territory.

The point was photographed from the air by the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition and surveyed from the ground by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey from "Horseshoe Island" and "Detaille Island" in the 1957-58 season. It is named after John Michael Rothera (b. 1934), the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey surveyor, Horseshoe Island 1957-58, and Detaille Island 1958-59.

Rothera Point was designated SSSI No. 9 under the Antarctic Treaty.
