Kelloholm is a village in the very north of Dumfriesshire, among the hills in Upper Nithsdale. It sits beside the River Nith, across which is Kirkconnel, and just a few miles from the border with Ayrshire.
The village has a primary school,[1] a public house and several shops. Kelloholm lies next to Kirkconnel and the two have begun to merge. Kelloholm was originally constructed to serve the many mines in the area, all of which have now closed.
The area is served by Kirkconnel railway station on the Glasgow South Western Line.
History
Kelloholm takes its name from the Kello Water. The village began to appear in the early 20th century.
