Kames Bay, with Loch Melfort beyond

Kames Bay is small, remote tidal bay on the west coast of Argyllshire. It is but half a mile long, and half that in width, indenting of the southern shore of Loch Melfort.[1]

About the bay

The main A816 road from Oban to Lochgilphead passes the bay. To the south-west is the small village of Arduaine standing close to the Arduaine Point and Asknish Bay. To the north-east is the small settlement of Kilmelford.

There is a a fish farm in Kames Bay.

To the east, the bay is bounded by Rubh án Àird Fhada point. To the west up the coast is the small tidal sea loch known as Loch na Cille, which provides a sheltered haven for yachts.[2]

On the other side of Loch Melfort from the bay, to the north-west of Kames Bay, is a small rocky island, Eilean Coltair, and behind it Kilchoan Bay.

Directly opposite is the Bàgh na Dalach Dubh-Chlachaich point and east, at the head of Loch Melfort is Fearnach Bay
