Great Clifton is a village in western Cumberland. Workington town centre is three miles to the west of the village and Cockermouth is seven miles east.
The village has a post office, general store and three pubs - the Market Cross, the Queen's Head (formerly the Lions Club) and the Old Ginn House, the last also being a hotel and a restaurant.
There is a primary school, Derwent Vale Primary School, built in 1995 9the old school having been converted into a private house.
There are several wind farms nearby, one being the Winscales Moor Wind Farm whose Community Fund has contributed money to the local village hall.
The 2011 census recorded a population of 1,114.

The local rugby league team is the Great Clifton Lions
