Gardynebourg was a hamlet in Angus which has now beecome but an outer development of the town of Carnoustie. It is to be found in the west of Carnoustie on the way to Barry.[1] Urban growth in the latter part of the nineteenth century and early twentieth century gradually led to the subsuming of Gardynebourg within the larger town, and its name now rarely appears. The name is an artificial one, form the Gardyne family, who were also lairds of another village in Angus with an interestingly devised name; Friockheim.
Gardynebourg is still shown as a separate village on the first edition Ordnance Survey map (6 inches to one mile) of 1865.[2] The buildings that once comprised the hamlet can be found today in the locality of Thomas Street, Carnoustie.
