Fliess Bay
Fliess Bay in the north coast of Joinville Island, off the east coast of Graham Land's Trinity Peninsula in the British Antarctic Territory.
The bay lies immediately west of Fitzroy Point along the north coast of the island.
James Clark Ross discovered the bay on 30 December 1842 during his survey expedition, but while he named Fitzroy Point he gave no name to the bay itself. The name 'Fliess' first appears on an Argentine government chart of 1957: it was named "Caleta Almirante Fliess" after Admiral Felipe Fliess (1878–1952) who, as a lieutenant, was commander of the Argentine navy group detached for duty with the crew of the corvette ARA Uruguay in 1903, which rescued the members of Otto Nordenskjöld's Swedish Antarctic Expedition of 1901–04 from Snow Hill Island.
