Earthcott Green, otherwise known simply as Earthcott is a hamlet in Gloucestershire, in the parish of Alveston though two miles from that village, between Latteridge and Rudgeway on the B4059 road between the A38 road and Yate. This is a rural spot, but just two and a half miles to the south-west is the junction of the M4 and M5 motorways and by the junction is Patchway and the beginning on the townscape which stretches barely broken from there to Bristol.
Earthcott Green has a letter box and a small village green, but no other services. Its main industry is farming.
The name 'Earthcott' is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as 'Herdicote'. It derives from the Old English 'eorþe-cot' meaning 'earth hut'[1]
Events
Traditions of Earthcott include a village bonfire night, and Christmas Eve carol singing, normally done on the back of a tractor-trailer, with regular stops for mince pies and hot toddy.
Nearby to the south-west is another hamlet of the parish called Gaunt's Earthcott.
