Dane End is a village to the north of Ware in Hertfordshire. Dane End is found between the A602 and A10.

The village is the main part of the parish of Little Munden, of which Dane End was once a minor hamlet. There is no Little Munden village as such, though Great Munden lies to the northeast. The village is reckoned to have a respectable population on its own aof around 700.

The name of Dane End does not refer to Viking marauders but is "Dene end" ("Valley end"), for it stands where a tributary of the River Lea comes off the surrounding chalk.[1]

School

Little Munden School is a Church of England voluntary controlled primary school. It was founded in 1819 at All Saints Church by the Reverend J P Reynolds, who served as rector from 1819 to 1831.[2] The school was designated as a Grade II listed building by English Heritage in 1984 as an early example of a parish school.[3]

Sport

  • Cricket: The Little Munden Cricket Club play at nearby Green End. Currently, it plays in the Herts & Essex Cricket League, Division 7.
  • Football: Dane End United play in the East Hertfordshire Corinthians League. They play their home games in Horses Meadow.[4]
