Clondrohid is a village in County Cork, four miles north of Macroom. The 2016 census recorded a population of 179; down from 188 as of the 2011 census.
The name of the village from the Irish Cluain Droichead, meaning 'Bridge of the meadow'.[1]
About the village
Clondrohid has a school, a community hall and a goodly range of local shops and pubs.
Carrigaphooca Castle stands in one of the neighbouring townlands, beside the Carrigaphooca Stone Circle, a monument about 3,000 years old.
Much of the western side of the village is a part of the Irish-speaking area or Gaeltacht. Some pupils of the national school go to the second level school in Ballyvourney to further their education through the medium of Irish. Others go to the De La Salle, St. Marys and McEgan College in Macroom.
