Calvay is a currently uninhabited island lying in the Sound of Eriskay, a stretch of the wider Sound of Barra in the Outer Hebrides and within Inverness-shire. This is one of ten islands in Sound of Barra, which separates Barra to the south from South Uist to the north.
It was on Calvay that the ship SS Politician ran aground with a cargo of whisky in 1941 and inadvertently provided the inspiration for Compton MacKenzie's 1947 novel Whisky Galore, later made into an Ealing Comedy film.
