Buchanan Passage

Buchanan Passage is a sea channel in the British Antarctic Territory, in Hanusse Bay, separating Adelaide Island and Liard Island, off the Loubet Coast.

The channel was photographed from the air by the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition in 1947-48 and named after Captain Peter William (later Vice-Admiral Sir Peter) Buchanan of the Royal Navy (b.1925), commanding HMS Endurance between 1968 and1970. It was Captain Buchanan who showed that the passage can be used to approach Marguerite Bay from the north, through The Gullet.
