Bretherdale Head is a hamlet in Westmorland, at the head of Bretherdale, a small valley north of the Westmorland Borrowdale carved by the Bretherdale Beck on its way to join the River Lune to the east.

The name 'Bretherdale' means "Brother Valley", which is recorded as Britherdal in the 12th century.[1]

The Breasthigh Road, a bridleway from Grizedale across to Borrowdale up and over the fells to Lonsdale by way of Bretherdale, runs through the hamlet.
