Bourton-on-the-Hill is a village in Gloucestershire, within the heart of the Cotswolds two miles west of Moreton-in-Marsh. It overlooks the surrounding hills of the Cotswolds.

In 2010, Bourton had an estimated population of 288.

The Heart of England Way long-distance route runs through the village, heading southwards to Bourton-on-the-Water and northwards to Cannock Chase. The village is also connected by a footpath to the Cotswold Way, by way of Blockley and Chipping Campden.

This is a very pretty village or honeyed Cotswold stone and with several noteworthy buildings, in including the Church of St Lawrence, Slatters Cottage, a stone cottage dating back to the 17th century, Horseshoe Cottage, a 3-storey stone cottage dating back to the 1750s and a public house, the Horse and Groom.

Parish church

The parish church, St Lawrence, was built in the 12th century. It is a Grade I listed building.[1] The nave of the church was built in the 12th century with the chancel being added in the 14th.[1]

The church was previously dedicated to St Mary but this was changed to St Lawrence in the 15th century.[2]

About the village

In the village is Bourton House, a manor house in three acres of garden which is a local visitor attraction. The village is also within walking distance of the house and gardens at Sezincote.

Just north of Bourton-on-the-Hill is a tiny village on the Cotswold escarpment, Batsford, where may be found the Batsford Arboretum, the Cotswold Falconry Centre.
