Arksey is a village in the West Riding of Yorkshire, in the south-east of the county, just north of Doncaster and mercifully for the moment escaping the clutches of its growing townscape.
The had an estimated population of 1,303 as of 2010. Arksey has four satellite hamlets: Shaftholme, Tilts, Almholme and Stockbridge.
The sey in Arksey means island in Old English, which is appropriate as the village is surrounded by marshland. It is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086.[1]
The parish church, All Saints Church, dates back to the 1120s and is a Grade I listed building.[2]
