Alston is a village in the east of Devon, close to the borders of Dorset and Somerset.
The River Axe, which for a few hundred yards here forms the county border with Dorset, is a mile to the east, across the A358, which is also the course of the ancient Roman road known as the Fosse Way. The nearest towns are Axminster in Devon to the south and Chard in Somerset to the north.
