Aboyne and Glen Tanar
Aboyne and Glen Tanar otherwise Glentanner is a parish in southern Aberdeenshire adjacent to the border with Angus. It is bounded to the north by Logie-Coldstone, Coull and Lumphanan, to the north-east by Kincardine O'Neil, to the south-east by Birse, to the south by Lochlee in Angus, and to the west by Glenmuick, Tullich and Glengairn.
Aboyne proper lies to the north of the Dee, between the burns of Dess on the east and Dinnet on the west. Its highest summit, Mortlich, rises upon the northern boundary to 1,248 feet above sea level. Lesser eminences are Balnagowan Hill (800 feet), Muchricha's Cross (798), Oldtown (580), and Balnacraig (689).
Glentanner extends from the southern bank of the Dee away to the Braes of Angus. Within it, from north to south, are Creagna-Slige (1,336 feet), Duchery Beg (1,485), Bandy Meg (1,602), the Strone (1,219), the Hill of Duchery (1,824), Craigmahandle (1,878), Little Cockcairn (2,044), Cockcairn (2,387), Gannoch (2,396), and the Hill of Cat (2,435), the three last culminating upon the southern or south-eastern border. The Dee either bounds or intersects the parish for about 15 miles.
