Hunderthwaite is a village in the Pennines, within the North Riding of Yorkshire, a mile south-west of Romaldskirk in the lands south of Teesdale, close to where the Tees ijoined by the River Balder. The population of the civil parish taken at the 2011 census was 114.

The name 'Hunderthwaite' may be derived most plausibly from Old Norse Hunrothr-þveit, meaning 'Hunroð's clearing',[1] or possibly "Hiounds' Clearing"..
