A' Chailleach is a mountain of 3,051 feet in the Monadhliath Mountains of Inverness-shire; one of the Munros of that range.
This is a peak in the north-eastern part of the Monadh Liath, close to its highest part. It is prominently seen from Newtonmore to the southeast from where many climbers begin when setting our to bag this Munro.
The craggy face looking at Newtonmore may be the mountain's most distinguishing feature.
Ascent
A' Chailleach is normally climbed together with Càrn Sgùlain, which are both within this eastern part of the Monadh Liath plateau. Of the mountain's southern ridges, the southeast ridge has the easier slopes and is the usual route of ascent from Newtonmore. The southwest ridge becomes increasingly steep below the 800 m contour.
From the heights, a ridge winds northward following the eastern crags to join up with the main Monadhliath plateau and on to Carn Sgulain.
