Loch Alvie

Loch Alvie is a small loch in the pretty valley of the River Spey, on whose shore stands the wee hamlet of Alvie, in Inverness-shire. The Spey flows by less than a mile from the loch, separated by a distinctive hill of 1,175 feet known as Torr Alvie, on which stand the Duke of Gordon Monument and the Waterloo Cairn.

The loch is caught between the A9 road to the north and the railway line to the south. A hotel stands on the shoreline. It is fed by a burn called the Allt an Fhearna, and waters from the loch eventually wander to the Spey.

The loch is about two miles south-west of Aviemore.
