Ascent
Generally Maolán Buí would be climbed as part of a long run of Knocknapeasta - Maolán Buí - Cnoc an Chuillinn, or even a traverse of the whole range. A ridge known as "the Bone" (not to be confused with "The Bones" running of Carrauntoohil) climbs Maolán Buí from the southeast, and it can be used to climb the peak alone, or to get down off the Eastern Reeks swiftly.
