Little Longstone is a village in Monsal Dale in Derbyshire, on a minor road west of Great Longstone, just off the B6465 road from Wardlow to Ashford-in-the-Water. The wider parish includes a hamlet, Monsal Head, and is wholly within the Peak District National Park.

About the village

The village pub is the Packhorse Inn.[1] The village also has a Grade-II-listed Congregational Chapel[2]

The Monsal Trail, a popular cycleway and footpath following a section of the former Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midlands Junction Railway,[3] runs just south of the village.

There are nine Grade II listed buildings and structures in the parish:

  • Village stocks[4] and adjacent house named 'the Stocks'.[5]
  • Manor House,[6] with its stable block[7] and Dutch barn[8]
  • The Packhorse Inn[9]
  • The Monsal Dale Viaduct[10] (also known as Headstone Viaduct)
  • Congregational Chapel[2]
  • Cosy Cottage and adjoining cottage[11]

The parish also has four scheduled monuments, comprising one disused lead mine and a series of bowl barrows:

  • White Cliff bowl barrow[12]
  • bowl barrow west of Castlegate Lane[13]
  • two bowl barrows east of Hay Dale[14]
  • Putwell Hill Mine[15]
