Buslingthorpe is a hamlet in Lindsey, the northern part of Lincolnshire, half a mile east of the A46 road at Faldingworth and three miles south-west of Market Rasen.

The hamlet comprises a moat, a farm, St Michael's Church (now disused, but open to the public) and about twenty houses. A large country house was built in approximately 2010 on the land of two demolished houses.

St Michael’s Church

The former parish church, St Michael's, stands in an isolated position adjacent to a partly moated farm to the east of the A46. It dates from the 13th century, with alterations and additions in the following century.[1] In 1835 it was restored and, other than the tower, was rebuilt in brick by Edward James Willson. The church stands on the site of a deserted mediaeval village.[2] It was declared redundant in 1984.[3]

The church is now closed for worship and has been declared redundant, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.[2] St Michael’s remains a Grade II* listed building.[1] The

The church. It is notable for two mediaeval monuments to members of the Buslingthorpe family.[2]

Miscellany

Sir Roger Scruton (1944 – 2020), the philosopher and writer, was born in Buslingthorpe.

Buslingthorpe (and its namesake in Yorkshire) have a rare quality shared with Buckfastleigh in Devon: its name contains 13 different letters, exactly half the alphabet, none repeated and with no hyphenation.[4]
