Green Island

Berthelot Islands
(British Antarctic Territory)

Location
Location: 65°19’25"S, 64°8’55"W
Data

Green Island is the northernmost of the Berthelot Islands off the Graham Coast of the British Antarctic Territory.

The island was roughly charted by the British Graham Land Expedition on 10 February 1935 and named descriptively since the island supports one of the most extensive areas of green moss (Pogonatum or Polytrichum spp.) in the Antarctic Peninsula area.

In 1967 the island was designated Specially Protected Area No.9 under the Antarctic Treaty.
