Gull Rock lies off the north coast of Joinville Island, near the north-east entrance of Larsen Channel, all off the north-east tip of Graham Land, within the British Antarctic Territory. The rck rises to 100 feet above sea level.

Gull Rock was roughly charted by the Argeintine Antarctic Expedition of 1946-47, and called Islote Gaviotín ('Tern Islet'). Following a survey by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey from Hope Bay in 1958-61, it was named 'Gull Rock', derived in error from the Spanish word gaviota ('gull').
