Hampton in south-western Middlesex is a separate village still, a prosperous village lying along the Thames between Bushy Park and Sunbury-on-Thames, from which is separated by Kempton Racecource. Its village centre is along the High Street and Church Street, where there are many fine buildings, including the Manor House. On the Thames at Hampton are a number of "eyots", river islands. The eastern end of the village is marked by the Green, beyond which is Hampton Court.
The village's name is plain Old English: Hamtun means "home village" or home estate, a common place name across England and Scotland. In Middlesex it attaches not just to Hampton itself but to its two satellite villages, Hampton Court and Hampton Wick.
Hampton Court

Hampton Court Palace stands east of Hampton itself, and has its own dependent village, Hampton Court. The Palace is a magnificent Tudor royal palace, at heart King Henry VIII's but added to skilfully by later kings. Hampton Court Park and Bushey Park form a vast green expanse in this part of Middlesex.
Hampton Wick

Hampton Wick lies further off, beyond Bushy Park and Hampton Court Park, adjacent to Teddington. It forms a cluster around the bridgehead looking across the Kingston Bridge at Kingston upon Thames in Surrey.
