Tallentire is a village in western Cumberland about two and a half miles north of Cockermouth.

The name 'Tallentire' means "land (or world's) end" in the Cumbric language. (The Oxford Dictionary of English Place Names describes the name as Cornish.)

Nearby stands Cockermouth Castle, only one of the many historic places in the vicinity of Tallentire. Other historical places of interest include Wordsworth House and Hayton Castle.
