Rickerby is a village immediately to the east of Carlisle in Cumberland, within the embrace of the M6 motorway as it loops around the city. Rickerby stands on the north bank of the River Eden.

The manor is recorded as having belonged to Richard de Tilliol of Scaleby Castle, whose descendant Adam de Rickerby (meaning Adam of Rickerby) resided here circa 1230. Rickerby Park is nearby.
