Kirklinton is a village in northern Cumberland, north of Carlisle and three miles east of the large village of Longtown. The population of the parish ('Kirklinton Middle') was recorded by the 2011 census as just 384, which includes the hamlet of Smithfield.

Kirklinton, as its name suggests, has a church, called St Cuthbert's, a vicarage close by, both of which are listed buildings.[1][2]

Two miles north of the village stands Brackenhill Tower, a restored pele tower, built in 1584 and little altered externally.[3]

The manor house of the village, Kirklinton Hall, is now in a ruinous state, having lain derelict for 40 years. In 2012 it was bought at auction by Christopher Boyle QC in order to open it to the public and restore the house and gardens to their former glory.[4]
