Salem
Salem is a Biblical name which has been a popular name for non-conformist chapels of the Great Revival, and from these it has become the name of several villages and hamlets across the land.
The name is found in Genesis 14:18, where Abraham is greeted by Melchizedek, King of Salem. The writer of the Epistle to the Hebrews identifies Melchizedek with Christ, as a 'Christophany', which inspired the revival preachers. The name 'Salem' is usually taken as an early name of Jerusalem.
