Barepot is a village in the west of Cumberland, close by the Irish Sea coast. As Workington and Seaton grew, Barepot and also Seaton became in effect districts of Workington.
This village has about 70 houses and stands beside the River Derwent. There are no public transport links, but Barepot is only a five to ten minute walk into the centre of Workington.
Barepot was in the news in 2002 for reasons it would rather forget, when the remains of a baby, named "Lara" by police, were found encased in a block of cement/concrete.[1][2] To this day no one has been charged with the murder of Baby Lara, although a couple were arrested but released without charge.
Lara is buried in St Peters churchyard at Camerton.
