The Schil is a fell at the edge of the Cheviot Hills, to the north of The Cheviot, and on the ridge which marks the boundary of Roxburghshire to the west with Northumberland to the east, the summit forming part of the boundary. The summit is also on the Pennine Way, on the last stretch before the descent to the path's northern end at Kirk Yetholm.
The Schil reaches 1,972 feet at its summit. It is a rounded hill, surrounded by peaks. To the south is Auchope Cairn, a subsidiary top of The Cheviot itself. To the east in Northumberland the hills are interrupted by the College Valley and to the west in Roxburghshire and to the north there stretches a series of lesser hills before the dale of the Bowmont Water which runs down to Kirk Yetholm; the Cheviots do not let go until the very end.
