The Hundred of Reigate in Surrey

Reigate is a hundred of Surrey, in the east of the county. It takes its name from the town of Reigate, a substantial place even in the Middle Ages, with its motte castle and land which become the towns of Redhill and Horley

Scope

The Reigate hundred includes the ancient parishes of:

Betchworth, Burstow, Buckland, Charlwood, Chipstead, Gatton,

Horley, Leigh, Merstham, Nutfield Reigate

In the Domesday Book of 1086, the hundred was recorded as Cherchefelle; in 1199 it became known as Reigate.
