The Scaur Water at Penpont

The Scaur Water or Scar Water is a river of Dumfriesshire, and a tributary of the River Nith.

The Scaur rises in a number of streams close to the Ayrshire boundary, running from the slopes between Blacklorg Hill (on the county boundary) and Cruffell. From theunion of these streams it flows eastward then southeast, broadening and meandering in its lower reaches, and taking in the waters of the Shinnel Water near Penpont. Soon afterwards it enters the River Nith, below Keir Mill, south of Thornhill.
