The Water of Aven

The Water of Aven (pronounced A'an) (Gaelic: an t-Uisge Bàn) flows along the border of Aberdeenshire with Kincardineshire, from the mountains until it falls into the Water of Feugh, itself the largest tributary of the River Dee.

The Water of Aven rises at Loch Tennet, where three counties meet: Aberdeenshire, Angus and Kincardineshire. From here it flows down for approximately 9 miles to its confluence with the Feugh near Whitestone, and for its whole length it forms the boundary between Aberdeenshire and Kincardineshire.[1]

The lowest 3 miles of the river's course are designated as part of the River Dee Special Area of Conservation, due to its importance for Atlantic salmon and otters.[2]
