Lewdown is a hamlet is on a hill north of the River Lew, from which position it takes its name, strung along the road west to Lifton.

To the south is a fellow hamlet, Lewtrenchard, through which the river runs and where the parish church stands. To the west and north respectively are the equally small villages of Stowford and Thrushelton, each with its own church.

The Two Castles Trail long-distance walking route runs through the village on its way west to the Cornish border and Launceston Castle.
