Persson Island is a small island a mile and a half long, which lies in Röhss Bay, a bay indenting the Trinity Peninsula, which is the north tip of Graham Land in the British Antarctic Territory. The island is considered part of the James Ross Island Group.
Exploration
The island was mapped by the Swedish Antarctic Expedition in 1902 and named N. Perssons Ön after Konsul Nils Persson, of Hälsingborg, who contributed towards the cost of the expedition
The island was resurveyed by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey from "Hope Bay", 1952-54.
An Argentine refuge hut was established at the north end of the island by army personnel from "Esperanza" and 17 August 1955, and called "Refugio Libertador General San Martín" after General Juan de San Martín.
