The River Main upstream of the Slaght Bridge

The River Maine or Main is a river 34 miles long in County Antrim. The river rises in the Glens of Antrim, flowing through Cullybackey and Randalstown before entering Lough Neagh.

The name of the river is from the Gaelic language, in which Abhainn Mhaighin means "river of the plain".

Former Prime Minister of Northern Ireland Terence O'Neill took the title "Baron O'Neill of the Maine" when he was made a life peer.

Wildlife

The River Maine is a noted salmon and trout fishery.[1]
