Rhyd Ddu is a small village in Snowdonia, in Caernarfonshire. It lies in the mountain pass to the west of Snowdon and in the shadow of that mountain. Rhyd Ddu is well known amongst seasoned walkers as a popular starting point for climbs up Snowdon on the Rhyd Ddu Path, and also for ascents of Moel Hebog, Yr Aran and the Nantlle Ridge.

Rhyd Ddu railway station is one of the stops of the Welsh Highland Railway between Caernarfon and Porthmadog.

Apart from the station, there are a few houses and cottages, a B&B with café and a hotel, the Cwellyn Arms. The main lake of the pass, Llyn Cwellyn is just to the north of Rhyd Ddu.

T H Parry-Williams, the poet, author and academic was born and raised at Rhyd Ddu. He twice won both the Chair and the Crown at the Royal National Eisteddfod, in 1912 and 1915.
