Llanrug is a large village in Caernarfonshire, about four miles to the east of the county town, Caernarfon, seven miles south of Bangor and three miles to the west of Llanberis. The River Seiont runs alongside the village and is a popular angling river.

The old name term of the village was initially Llanfihangel-y-Rug, derived from Eglwys Sant Mihangel which is just outside the village. It has a Welsh-speaking community of roughly 80% and a population of 2,500. The busy and sometimes dangerous A4086 road from Llanberis Pass to Caernarfon runs through the village.

Attractions

From the east the village has views of Snowdonia including The Carneddau, Y Fronllwyd, Carnedd y Filiast, Glyderau, Snowdon, Crib Goch, Moel Cynghorion and Moel Eilio.

The River Seiont in the village and is a popular angling river and there is a fish hatchery in the Crawiau area of the village run by the Seiont, Gwyrfai and Llyfni fishing association.
