Papua Island

Joinville Island Group
(British Antarctic Territory)

Location
Location: 63°7’43"S, 55°58’14"W
Data

Papua Island is a small circular island lying four nautical miles west of Boreal Point, off the north coast of Joinville Island, of Graham Land in the British Antarctic Territory.

The name was applied by the Argentine Antarctic Expedition of 1953–54, because large numbers of gentoo penguins (Pygoscelis papua) were sighted on this island.
