The water pump on the green in Martin, Wiltshire

Martin, Wiltshire

Martin is a small village in the very south of Wiltshire, on Cranborne Chase a mile and a half from the Dorset border (marked here by the Bokerley Dyke to the west) and from the Hampshire border to the east. Wiltshire's county town, Salisbury, is twelve miles north-east of the village.

Martin stands on the Allen River, a tributary of the River Avon. Standing on the village green is still the iron village pump. The base of the 15th century village cross can also be seen here. (Read more)
