Broughton is a little village in the North Riding of Yorkshire, three miles north-west of Malton (which sits on the boundary of the East Riding).
Broughton is clustered on the B1257 Malton to Ryedale road and a pair of short lanes north running off that road. It is barely half a mile east of Swinton, Yorkshire, which is similarly placed and arranged, and is in effect the start of a series of such villages along the road – Swinton, Amotherby, Appleton-le-Street, Barton-le-Street and Slingsby.
