Cadfarch is a parish a few miles to the south and south-east of Machynlleth in Montgomeryshire, adjacent to the borders of Cardiganshire and Merionethshire.
Most of the parish is mountainous except for the northern area around the Dovey valley. The A487 and 489 trunk roads to Machynlleth pass through this area, as does the railway line from Machynlleth to Tywyn and Aberystwyth. Dovey Junction railway station is situated in the westernmost part of the parish and county, about 400 yards from both Cardiganshire and Merionethshire.
