Widford is a village in Hertfordshire.
The "Apostle to the Indians," John Eliot (1604–1690) was born in Widford. The village also influenced writer Charles Lamb whose grandmother is buried on the parish. As children, Lamb and his sister Mary often stayed at Blakesware near Widford, where Mary Field, their grandmother, was housekeeper to the Plumer family. The house was demolished in 1830, Lamb recalled these visits in his essays 'Blakesmoor in H----' and 'Dream Children'.
