Wheston is a village in the Derbyshire Peak District. It was formerly known as Whestone.
Notable features include Wheston Hall and the Wheston Cross.
The cross, which survives intact, is more than eleven feet high, and probably dates from the 14th century, marking the way over the moor from Tideswell to Buxton along the Forest Road.[1] Images of the Madonna and Child and the Crucifixion are carved into it.[2] The cross is both a scheduled monument[3] and a Grade II* listed structure.[4]
